Warburtons Donate To Yorkhill Hospital

25 February 2009

Warburtons, Scotland's favourite family baker, has donated £940 to the Schiehallion Unit at Yorkhill Hospital.

Staff at Warburtons Bellshill bakery raised the money by selling Warburtons products at the Good Food Show at the SECC. A range of bread products were sold at a special discounted price and £940 was raised for the hospital unit.

This is the second time Warburtons has supported the Schiehallion Unit, after donating £1,000 to the unit last year. The money was used to buy a new 'Dinamap' machine, which provides a gentle, non invasive way of monitoring the blood pressure of very young patients.

The Schiehallion Unit has been open since 1996 and treats children suffering from leukaemia and other life threatening conditions. Some of the 22 patients require bone marrow transplants and have blood disorders such as haemophilia and sickle cell disease.

Patricia Carroll, Ward Clerkess at the Schiehallion Unit, said: "We are delighted to receive this generous donation from Warburtons and would like to thank them for their generosity. The Dinamap machine has proved invaluable to us and this additional money will enable us to purchase a second machine, which will help enhance the provision of care we can offer the young people we look after."

Marie McCance, business development at Warburtons Scotland, said: "It is very important to us that we provide support to those within our community who need it.  Yorkhill Hospital's Schiehallion Unit carries out tremendous work and we're delighted to be in a position to support the unit again this year.
