The Only Way Is Up For Central Fm As Listener And Revenue Figures Surge In Last Six Months

15 January 2009

The New Year has got off to a flying start for the team at Central FM with an upsurge in listener and revenue figures in the last six months.

The station, which was bought over by Chairman John Quinn in August last year, has increased its market share by 62% with average weekly listening hours increasing by 38% to 8.4 hours. Revenue is also up 28% on the previous quarter.

Quinn purchased the 64% shareholding of the Forth Valley station from The Local Radio Company (TLRC) and has made a commitment to serve the local audience and put it at the heart of the community.

The information is released in the same week the station picked up the Scottish branch title for delivering consistently outstanding output from the Radio Academy Nations and Regions Awards. Central FM will now go forward as an entrant in the national 2009 Sony Radio Academy Awards in the Station of the Year category.

Listeners have witnessed a transformed station with new branding and a new look website that is entirely focused on the community it serves. The station prides itself as the main point of contact for local news and events whilst delivering a service like no other in the area.

John Quinn, Chairman of Central FM, attributes the success to the staff and their ability to produce broadcasts that are highly relevant to the Forth Valley area: "This is a fantastic start to 2009 and is testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team at Central FM. We've worked tirelessly over the past year to meet the needs of our listeners and advertisers. From the quality of the broadcasts to the talented staff we employ - we've created a real brand that our audience can relate to.

"Listener figures are up and we're currently working with leading companies to create original and relevant campaigns for the local audience in Forth Valley. We'll be looking to build on this success in the coming months. A big well done to everyone who has helped achieve this award and a big thank you to our listeners for continuing to tune in day after day."

In 2009, the Central FM team will produce a series of creative campaigns for local companies that will engage ever further with the people of Forth Valley.

Notes to editor:

The Radio Academy Nations and Regions Awards offer stations with a TSA (Total Survey Area) under 300,000 the opportunity to be recognised in their region for best catering the needs of the local audience. There are 13 Radio Academy Branches across the country and each branch awards one Nations and Regions Award to the station that produces a continuously high level of output.

This is the third award for Central FM in the last six months after scooping The Arqiva Commercial Radio Stations Awards winning the UK Local Sales Team of The Year 2008 and The Prince Michael International Road Safety Award winning the category for Drink Drive Campaign for the partnership between Central FM, Central Scotland Police and Diageo for the Winter Safe Drive Campaign 2007.
