Celebs Buzzing About World's First Stephen Webster Mosquito Ring

Luxury British jewellery designer, Stephen Webster, has been commissioned by the Malaria Awareness Campaign* to design a one-of-a-kind mosquito ring to highlight the serious issue of malaria among UK travellers, whilst raising funds for new charity, Malaria No More UK.
With between 1,500 and 2,000 travellers returning to the UK with malaria every year; Webster, whose A-list clients include Kate Moss, Madonna and Christina Aguilera, has put his weight behind the campaign to educate UK travellers about the life-threatening risks.
In keeping with his unique style, famed for its originality and glam rock attitude, Webster has designed a striking mosquito ring fashioned in rhodium plated white gold set with ruby cabochons, white diamond wings, a silver diamond tail and a black diamond band. This unique ring is to be auctioned by Malaria No More UK with all proceeds from the highest bid going to the charity.
300 limited edition replica rings, designed to reflect the look of the fine jewellery piece, are to be sold exclusively through online fashion retailer ASOS.com (www.ASOS.com) in October. There will be a choice of two designs: black rhodium or brushed silver, both with crystal encrusted wings. The rings will retail at £50 each with all proceeds from the sale of the rings through ASOS.com going to Malaria No More UK. Each ring sold will generate sufficient funds to buy up to 10 life-saving mosquito bednets in Africa, protecting as many as 20 people for five years.
Commenting on his involvement, Webster says: 'Malaria is the perfect example of a devastating disease that has no place in the 21st century. Preventable and curable, it's simply about education, treatment and funding. We are committed to playing our part in helping to raise awareness of the risks to Brits visiting malaria hotspots and the preventative measures they can take.'
'In keeping with the DNA of Stephen Webster, we are creating a piece of jewellery that is provocative, creative and not without an element of wit. Even although the cause could not be more serious, the way to raise funds needn't be. A mosquito ring... blackened white gold, black & white diamonds and rubies...this is the only time one would welcome one of the little critters on your finger.'
Webster continues, 'This one-of-a-kind ring has been created with the aim of raising as much money as possible to support Malaria No More UK.'
Jo Yirrell, spokesperson for the Malaria Awareness Campaign and Special Ambassador for Malaria No More UK adds: 'I have experienced the devastation of malaria first hand through the death of my son Harry who contracted the disease while volunteering in Ghana. I have since campaigned relentlessly to raise awareness about malaria and the serious risk it poses, especially to British travellers.
'I can't stress enough how important it is for people to visit their GP when planning a trip to a malarial destination. It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to kill, yet it is so easily preventable. If we all work together we really can make a difference, and this project is a fantastic way to potentially save thousands of lives.'
