No Sleeping On The Job For Scunthorpe Store

17 July 2009

A team of 25 from a Scunthorpe opticians left their uniforms at home on Friday to spend the day serving customers in their pyjamas.

In an effort to raise vital funds in aid of the Lindsey Lodge Hospice, the Scunthorpe Specsavers store was awash with nightwear as the team pledged its support to generating much needed cash.

The team had also been busy baking cup cakes to tempt generous customers into making further donations.

Their charitable endeavours didn't stop there as nine ladies put their best feet forward to take part in the Sleepwalk at Glanford Park alongside 500 other fundraisers from across the town on Friday evening.

From their efforts throughout the day and from sponsorship collected from family, friends and customers the Scunthorpe Specsavers store raised more than £500.

'There was a great atmosphere in store throughout the day, the cakes were delicious and the girls all said they had a really good laugh walking round town in their PJ's' says Andrew Mortimer, store director from Scunthorpe Specsavers.

'It costs more than £3.50 every minute to keep the Lindsey Lodge Hospice running and they provide such wonderful care for patients and their families that we were all compelled to get involved and do what we could to help raise much needed funds - we hope we raised a few smiles among our customers too throughout the day!'

The Lindsey Lodge Hospice is an independent charity offering special care for people in the North Lincolnshire area with specific life-limiting conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease.

The hospice was opened in September 1992 to provide loving, specialised nursing and medical care which is sensitive to the needs of the individual patient and their loved ones. Although generous funding is received from the North Lincolnshire NHS Trust, the hospice relies heavily on the generosity of local people and organisations.

If you would like to make a donation, simply drop into the Specsavers Scunthorpe store on 54 High Street or send a cheque made payable to the Lindsey Lodge Hospice to Burringham Road, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, DN17 2AA.
