Test Your Eyes Not Your Oil During National Road Safety Week

The clocks have gone back, the temperature has taken a tumble and dark nights are well and truly upon us, making it harder than ever for drivers to see what is going on around them.

This week is National Road Safety Week (23-27 November) and Specsavers on Liverpool Lord Street, is encouraging local taxi and bus drivers to come in for a 'Specs MOT' to increase safety on the roads.

Specsavers, which has spent the last five years campaigning for drivers to have regular eye examinations to improve motorist and pedestrian safety, is hoping that 'Road Safety Week' can help to eradicate the dangers of driving with impaired vision.

The law requires all drivers to be able to read a car licence plate from a distance of 20.5 metres and to have a 120 degree wide field of vision, either naturally or with the use of glasses or contact lenses.

Steve Bryan, store director of Specsavers Liverpool Lord Street explains: 'At this time of year we normally see an increase in the number of accidents as the dark nights draw in. We want to help people stay safe on the road and to ensure that all drivers meet the correct sight requirements.

'People may not realise they have a problem with their eyes until they make a long distance journey or drive in the dark, by which time it could be too late. We are encouraging people to come into store for a 'Specs MOT' in order to guarantee that they are driving legally and safely.'
