Beverley Optician Reaches New Heights

13 October 2009

Jeremy Beesley, store director of Specsavers in Beverley reached the summit of Cho Oyu an 8,201m (26,906ft) high mountain in the Himalayas on 24 September. He is one of only about 135 people from the UK to ever successfully make the ascent.

Mr Beesley, who also completed the London Marathon this year, is a keen ice climber and has previously climbed around the Mont Blanc region of the Alps.

Mr Beesley comments: 'This was the biggest challenge I have taken on to date and is an ambition I have had for more than 25 years, so it was an incredible feeling to have completed it.

'Cho Oyu's summit is only 650m lower than Everest's so the view from the top was well worth the effort. I'll be training for something else once my frost bitten toes have recovered!'

Following his successful climb Mr Beesley is collecting sponsorship funds for Dove House Hospice. Please send donations to Dove House Hospice, c/o Specsavers, 52, Toll Gavel, Beverley.
