Anniversary award accolade for data supplier

Chichester-based Marketscan was named ‘Outstanding B2B Data Provider’ at the 2012 Database Marketing Awards – successfully beating stiff competition from the industry’s biggest names to once again land the title.

Founded in 1982 – when the industry was in its infancy and information was stored on computers with 64k of RAM and floppy disk drives – the company has since developed into one of the most advanced in its sector.

BBC sports presenter Hazel Irvine, who hosted the ceremony, said: “The judges were thoroughly impressed with the breadth and depth of their ever-changing offering.”

According to the latest research UK companies on average attribute 23% of their total sales to direct marketing, with the total spend in the sector set to hit £15.2bn in 2012.

Marketscan specialises in providing high quality business contacts for email, telephone and postal campaigns. In order to maintain a competitive advantage over the major players in the sector, the company has created a marketing intelligence database that is regularly updated from five top UK sources – and holds over 3.2 million records.

Managing director Julie Knight, who collected the award, said: “To win this award last year was wonderful, but to come back again this year and retain the title is a fantastic achievement for all of us at Marketscan.

Marketscan believes that a key contributor to its success is the hands-on approach delivered by highly trained staff - with no use of recorded messages.

Its focus on customer service has seen it rated as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’ by 96.4% of respondents in client surveys – helping it win business from major blue-chip clients such as Calor Gas, Makro and The Health Insurance Group.
