Beattie Calls For Linkedin To Introduce Company Endorsements

Thursday, 31 July 2014

Gordon Beattie, chairman of Only Group, has called on Linkedin to allow members to endorse companies as well as people.

It has been possible to endorse people on Linkedin for a number of years and Gordon Beattie is now suggesting endorsements should be applied to companies as well.

He claims it will add a bit of spice and excitement to the site although he admits it would not be the fairest way of rating brands.

He said: “It would rumble up the platform if members were able to endorse corporate brands they really admire. It would create some fun and zing with rival brands around the world competing to have the highest number of endorsements.

“I would, for instance, love to see our PR agency going head to head with our biggest rivals. It would add a bit of sport to what is already a competitive environment.

“I have got to admit, however, that it’s not the ideal way to rate a brand because the system would be wide open to abuse.

“There would, for instance, be nothing to stop a company from canvassing for endorsements and one or two unsavoury brands might even stoop to paying for them.

“Nonetheless, I would like to see Linkedin following up on the idea if only to encourage brands to pay more attention to their corporate profiles.”

According to Gordon Beattie, less than 20% of companies give their corporate listings on Linkedin serious attention by posting regular updates.

“Anything that improves that dismal statistic is to be applauded,” he added.

Gordon Beattie is chairman of London headquartered Only Group whose brands include PR consultancy Beattie Communications, student recruitment business 11ten and the Only series of marketing boutiques. Included in the group is specialist marketing business Only Linkedin.
