Brits Look To Scotland For Easter Breaks

Wednesday, 03 March 2010

A leading tourism website has seen a 156 per cent increase in enquiries for Easter holidays to Scotland compared with last year, as Brits look to head to the country for Easter.

iknow-uk, the UK's leading tourism and accommodation directory, has seen a huge surge in visitors looking for accommodation in Scotland this Easter, with the Isle of Skye and Aviemore coming out on top as the most searched for places.

The Isle of Arran and Loch Lomond have also proved popular choices for Brits heading to Scotland, with holiday cottages proving to be the most searched for property type.

Marcus Simmons, managing director of iknow-uk, said: "Since launching the iknow-Scotland website we've seen a steady growth in the number of people looking for information on holidays to the country, but we've been pleased to see the large increase in interest in recent weeks.

"Scotland has such amazing countryside and great towns and villages to visit, and Brits are obviously realising that it's the perfect choice for an Easter break.

"It's reassuring that people across the UK are looking closer to home for holidays and weekends away, instead of instantly jetting off abroad.  There's so much to discover right here on our own doorsteps - Britpacking is definitely the way forward!"

Founded by Marcus in 2003, iknow-uk now operates 14 regional websites for accommodation providers including hotels, guest houses, holiday cottages and B&Bs.  The sites are visited by almost a million users each month.
