Cumbernauld College Scoops Trio Top Industry Accolades

Thursday, 01 December 2011

Cumbernauld College has scooped three top accolades at two prestigious college award ceremonies - all in one week.

The college's first win was for its prospectus which beat off stiff competition to win first place at the FE First Awards, an annual UK-wide ceremony organised by the College Marketing Network.

Having undergone an extensive redesign the innovative prospectus impressed judges in the General Full-time Prospectus category at the awards, which celebrate best practice within further education.

As part of the project, the college's marketing team undertook in-depth market research to find out what students wanted from the publication. Feedback included inspirational quotes, an interview with the Principal and vocational images, which have been incorporated.

The college continued its successful streak by gaining gold in the Equality and Diversity category at the prestigious Scotland's Colleges Awards. The college was also commended in the Professional Learning and Enhancement category at the ceremony held this week.

Scotland's Colleges Awards celebrate the success of outstanding projects and initiatives being delivered throughout the country. Judges of the Equality and Diversity category were impressed with the college's Equalities Tool - a high-tech programme which promotes equality among students by monitoring performance levels.

The new intranet database means staff can monitor students' attainment at college, faculty, course and class level - allowing them to see at a glance how students are performing.

Martin McGuire, Principal of Cumbernauld College, said: "To start the week by winning one top industry award was fantastic, but to finish it off with another gold and commended win is unbelievable.

"Our staff worked extremely hard on the projects nominated and it is great to see the college gain the recognition it deserves at both a Scottish and UK level.  We constantly  strive to make Cumbernauld College a forward thinking and inspirational institution and awards like this prove we are on the right track."

Cumbernauld College's recent wins come after its Equalities Tool was crowned joint winner at the prestigious JISC Tech Dis OASES 2011 Awards in October.
