Easyjet To Fly Two Million Passengers Out Gatwick This Summer

Friday, 17 July 2009

easyJet announced today that it is set to fly a record two million passengers out of Gatwick airport this summer.

With a choice of 71 destinations and operating a fleet of 39 aircraft out of Gatwick, easyJet is the largest airline operating out of the south London airport and will fly, on average, 40,000 passengers out of the airport each day during the peak season - smashing the one million mark for the first time in both July and August.

The low-fares airline, which also marks its 10th anniversary operating from Gatwick this year, has recently increased the number of easyJet flights from the airport to popular destinations including Bodrum, Dalaman, Mykonos, Montpellier and Toulouse to meet anticipated customer demand.

In celebration of the milestone, easyJet will reward the millionth passenger it flies out of Gatwick in July with free flights for a year.  It's anticipated that the lucky millionth passenger will be flying between 28th and 31st July and will be identified at check-in on the day of their departure.  They will be given the chance to live the jet-set lifestyle by selecting a return flight each month from Gatwick until July 2010.

Paul Simmons, UK general manager for easyJet, comments: "We have come a long way since the launch of our first daily Geneva service out of Gatwick back in December 1999, carrying around 6000 passengers a month to now more than one million passengers a month, this summer.

"What better way to celebrate our achievement than rewarding our millionth passenger to fly out of Gatwick in July, giving them the opportunity to choose from more than 70 destinations with free flights for one year. We'll also be announcing another exciting chance to win for passengers in August -  watch this space!"

Spain is still top of the list for UK holidaymakers, with Malaga and Palma coming out as the top destinations from Gatwick throughout July and August.  easyJet has also reported increased demand for destinations including Bodrum, Dalaman, Dubrovnik, Santorini, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada.
