Efficiency Specialist Makes Three Major Additions

Public sector improvement specialist Newton has made a trio of senior appointments to its advisory board.

Newton’s advisory board consists of senior executives ranging from Rear Admirals to FTSE 100 Group Operations Directors.

They use their depth of experience to help guide the company’s work and support Newton’s growth objectives in an expanding market place.

The three latest members to be appointed to the select group are Irene Lucas CBE, Isobel Garner and Mike Bennett.

Irene Lucas CBE is a Public Sector professional with more than 30 years’ experience in local, national and international government. Lucas has held a number of senior positions including Acting Permanent Secretary and Director General for Local Government and Regeneration in the Department of Communities and Local Government in Whitehall, as well as a variety of roles in local government ultimately as Chief Executive. Lucas is renowned for her passion for innovation and service improvement, and was awarded CBE in 2008 for services to local government.

With wide ranging experience in industry, both the private sector and the public sector, Isobel Garner has been operating with board level accountability for almost 20 years. Up until March 2011 she was Chief Executive of Wrexham County Borough Council. As a result of her leadership over 8 years, the Council gained a reputation for a success and innovation whilst operating within a strong corporate governance framework. Isobel also brings a wealth of knowledge on the Challenges facing the devolved Government in Wales.

Mike Bennett completes the triumvirate of Newton’s new faces, and brings 8 years’ experience as Assistant Director General and then Co-Managing Director of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE) - the representative body for senior strategic managers working in local government. Bennett is also a director of Public Intelligence, which provides strategic analysis and advice to local government as well as to clients in business, finance, higher education and the voluntary sector.
