Food retailers see business boom at Bon Accord & St Nicholas Centre

Tuesday, 11 September 2012

Top food brands have been serving up success at Bon Accord & St Nicholas' recently refurbished food terrace.

Sandwich favourite Pret A Manger and much-loved Italian restaurant Di Maggio's have both record sales figures 30 per cent above target since opening at the Aberdeen shopping centre late last year.

Despite the dismal summer, sales of Pret's popular snacks and lunches as well as Di Maggio's pasta and pizza meals have continued to go down well with customers at the city's most shopped destination.

Bon Accord & St Nicholas, which is a joint venture between Land Securities and British Land, recently underwent an £8 million refurbishment, which included the stylish and modern food terrace which has attracted top brands YO! Sushi and Café Rouge as well as Pret a Manger and Di Maggio's.

Speaking of the success of Pret A Manger at Bon Accord & St Nicholas, Scotland Operations Manager Lorna O'Donnell said: "We are delighted with how quickly the people of Aberdeen have taken Pret to their hearts, with locals and visitors alike enjoying our delicious range of good, honest, natural products.

"The feedback from our opening in the Bon Accord Shopping Centre was so positive that we knew we had to open a second store as soon as we could, with our Union Street store opening in Aberdeen just a few months later."

Di Maggio's boss Mario Gizzi also expressed his delight over the success of brand's first restaurant in the north east.

He said: "Right from the off we were achieving sales above our target. This has continued right through the first half of 2012 as the Aberdeen public continues to enjoy our offering of hearty Italian meals.

"Traditional Italian meals such as pasta and pizza continue to be firm favourites with our customers. It is not an easy time to be branching out and opening new outlets, however, to be consistently achieving sales above target is a fantastic achievement."

Katherine Armstead, Land Securities Senior Portfolio Manager for Scotland, said: "The refurbished food terrace has been a huge draw for the centre giving it wider appeal. The restaurants have all got off to a good start and it is fantastic that Pret A Manger and Di Maggio's are continuing to perform way above target.

"The extensive revamp of the centre also includes new walkways and entrances as well as high-tech LED lighting, enhancing the overall shopping experience for our valued customers."

The new food brands, which have taken leases ranging from 10 to 15 years, add to the already extensive range of retail choice at Aberdeen's top shopping destination, which recently announced the arrival of gift store The Card Factory and affordable fashion brand Internacionale.

Situated over two floors the Bon Accord & St Nicholas centre is home to 65 stores including anchors John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and the largest Next in Scotland.

Bon Accord & St Nicholas is also home to a number of stores unique to Aberdeen, including the city's only John Lewis, Swarovski, River Island, Karen Millen, Kurt Geiger, Lipsy, Body Shop, Hobbs and Jo Malone.
