Hall Fame Beckons For Local Entrepreneur

Friday, 09 April 2010

A local entrepreneur has been shortlisted for a position in the British Travel Industry Hall of Fame in recognition of his work in the tourism sector.

James Cole, a director from Chorley based Cruise118, has been shortlisted for the honour after being nominated by peers from across the travel industry, and will find out if he will be successfully inaugurated into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony in London on 11 May.

The British Travel Industry Hall of Fame was created in 1995 and recognises and honours people who have played a significant role in the creation and development of the travel and tourism industries.  James has been shortlisted in the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category.

He said: "I can't believe I've made the shortlist for the Hall of Fame.  It's a real honour to be nominated by your peers, and with so many exciting things going on in the sector at the moment, I'm pleased that Cruise118 has been recognised as a leading retailer."

Cruise118 was established in 2008 by James and his business partner Mal Barritt, and has grown from a two man business to become the leading independent cruise retail company in the UK - employing more than 60 people at its Chorley base.

The pair have over 25 years combined experience in the travel industry, and realised there was a gap between the high levels of service delivered on board cruise ships, compared with the levels experienced by customers when booking their holidays.  As a result they set up Cruise118 with a pledge to deliver 'exceptional service as standard' - and employed a team of cruise concierges, each trained to give a bespoke, personal service to every customer.

Cruise118 has also been shortlisted for Cruise Agency of the Year at the Agent Achievement Awards which take place in London on 22 April.

James added:  "We have had an amazing first few years at Cruise118.  We now work with all the major cruise lines to ensure we can offer the best quality, independent holiday advice to our customers.  We recently signed a deal with travelsupermarket.com which means we provide a white label cruise website for the comparison site.  We've launched three niche websites in response to consumer demand - www.sixstarcruises.co.uk, www.sailfromuk.com and www.alaskaonly.com - and we've been able to employ more people from across the region.

"Despite the difficult economic climate, we've found people still want to get away on holiday, and cruising is becoming an increasingly popular vacation of choice.  One in 12 holidays booked is now a cruise, and people are definitely realising that it's a surprisingly cost effective way of seeing the world.

"I'm looking forward to the awards dinner on 11 May, and also to another great year for Cruise118."
