Hamilton Ms Launches Summer Fundraising For Ups Downs

Wednesday, 16 June 2010

Employees at Marks & Spencer in Hamilton are hosting a summer of fundraising events in support of Ups and Downs, a Lanarkshire-based theatre group for adults and young people with Down's Syndrome.

The Ups and Downs Theatre Group was established in 1995 to provide a fun and creative outlet for children and young adults with Down's Syndrome and their families. Every March for the last 15 years, the 72-strong cast has put on a week-long show at Motherwell Theatre that is growing year-on-year in success and popularity.

Fundraising kicked off this month with M&S employees putting their best foot forward in a sponsored walk, and on Saturday June 12th a sponsored bag packing service was offered in store.

Collection boxes for Ups and Downs are being displayed at store tills from the beginning of July until the end of September.

M&S Hamilton store manager, Grant Henry said, "We are delighted to support Ups and Downs in their fantastic work. Fundraising has just begun and already we have been really touched by the generosity of local people. All the staff at M&S Hamilton are really looking forward to a busy summer of fundraising."

Angela Jack, vice president of the Ups and Downs Theatre group, which rehearses in St Mary's Church, Motherwell, said, "Having an organisation such as M&S associated with our production is a real bonus. The Ups and Downs shows give our cast members, whatever their abilities, the chance to develop their own unique talents, learn a few more skills along the way, have fun and show the community the positive face of disability. We truly value Marks & Spencer's support."
