Herbert Brown Puts Sparkle Back Into St Hughs Ahead Store

Friday, 11 June 2010

One of Britain's most established pawnbroking and retail jewellery chains Herbert Brown is marking the forthcoming launch of its new Grimsby store by helping to spread a little sparkle in the local community.

The new team from the Herbert Brown store, which will be opening its doors in the town's Freshney Place shopping centre later this month, will be rolling up their sleeves to bring a fresh lick of paint to St Hugh's Community Centre on Haycroft Street.

David Beasley, Herbert Brown store manager comments: "St Hugh's plays a crucial role in the local community, providing a whole range of services from lunch clubs and first aid courses to health clinics and children's activities such as tai chi.

"We are delighted to bring a little sparkle to the centre which can be enjoyed by so many members of the local community."

Herbert Brown's newest store will be officially opening its doors in Grimsby's Freshney Place shopping centre at the end of the month - bringing six new jobs to the town.

Herbert Brown's acquisition and extensive refurbishment of the former Poundworld site will bring the business' total investment in the local economy to over £250,000 and have a significant impact on retail choice in the town.

Herbert Brown, a finalist in the 2010 UK Jewellery Awards and winner of the National Pawnbrokers Association's Employer of the Year award for the second consecutive year, was established in 1840 and is one of the largest pawnbroking and retail jewellery chains in the UK with 37 stores across the country.

Phillip Garlick, Herbert Brown operations director, says: "Herbert Brown is delighted to be opening its doors in Grimsby.  We have begun an extensive staff training programme and will be providing local shoppers with access to vintage and new jewellery, as well as a top quality gold and jewellery buying facility.

"The store has undergone a significant refurbishment programme, with the business investing heavily in refitting the store to deliver a high quality jewellery retail operation and pawnbroking store.

"We have maintained our position as one of Britain's most established jewellers and pawnbrokers by reinventing the look and customer experience of pawnbroking."

Herbert Brown has recently unveiled an extensive recruitment drive and expansion plan following the strongest period of trading in its 170-year history.

Garlick concludes: "The launch of our new full service website Pawnbroking.co.uk has paved the way for a new phase in Herbert Brown's long history and this, together with a continued period of strong trading across our retail stores, has facilitated this challenging expansion drive."
