Tuesday, 29 March 2016
An Aberdeen basketball club has received funding from the Ross and Liddell Community Bursary Scheme.
Granite City Flames is a recipient of the property management company’s fifth funding programme, which provides support to organisations all over Scotland.
The club was set up to promote basketball, provide more opportunities and quality sporting events for the community. They run teams from ages six to 13 and senior ladies teams.
The funding received from Ross and Liddell will be used to buy new uniforms for the youth teams.
Zane Bricite, founder and head coach at the club said: “I founded the club to create more opportunities for children in the sport. We all want to see more active healthier, happier children participating in exercise.
“This funding will help us develop the club and get more age groups involved. As well as going towards the costs of uniforms and equipment we’d also like to organise more summer and Easter camps.”
Members meet four times a week at the Torry and Jesmond sports centres in Aberdeen.
Ross and Liddell specialises in property management and maintenance, as well as providing a comprehensive range of residential and commercial services, including sales, lettings, surveying and insurance.
Now in its fifth year, the Community Bursary Scheme was launched to provide support to organisations that make a vital difference in their community.
Granite City Flames is one of 31 groups to receive funding in this bursary year.
Irene Devenny, managing director of Ross and Liddell, said: “The bursary has really gone from strength to strength and the number of entries that we received for the 2015 scheme was fantastic.
“It’s so important that organisations like the Granite City Flames have access to funding sources to ensure young people get the chance to play sport and get the opportunity to reach their full potential.
“We are thrilled to offer our support and know that the funding will be put to good use.”
