Hull - This Seasons Summer Hotspot Visitor Numbers Soar

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

A leading tourism website has declared Hull as the must-visit place to visit this summer, after seeing a surge in enquiries for people looking to visit the city.

Travel experts from leading tourism and accommodation directory iknow-yorkshire.co.uk have seen an increase in visitors searching for things to do and places to stay in Hull, with searches up by 109.9% compared with this time last year.

Days out in Hull proved to be the most popular, with many site visitors looking for things to do and places to eat in the city.  Attractions such as The Deep Aquarium also proved to be crowd-pullers this summer with visitors also choosing to look for cosy bed and breakfasts rather than larger hotels in the area.

Marcus Simmons, managing director of iknow-yorkshire.co.uk, said: "With so much travel chaos this year caused first by the weather, then by the volcanic ash cloud and then the constant threat of airport strikes, it is really no surprise that people are looking closer to home to entertain themselves this summer.

"Hull is a great city and has seen a significant amount of investment and development in recent years and it's obvious that people are really sitting up and taking notice of it.  It is definitely punching above its weight this summer and fingers crossed the local economy will see a real benefit from this increased interest in what it has to offer."

Founded by Marcus in 2003, iknow-uk now operates 15 regional websites for accommodation providers including hotels, guest houses, holiday cottages and B&Bs.  The sites are visited by almost a million users each month.

Holiday home owners looking to list on one of iknow's websites, should visit www.iknow-uk.com.
