Keeping It Family

Thursday, 11 March 2010

MUMS from Wigan will be glad they went to Specsavers this weekend as they will all receive a special gift to mark Mothering Sunday.

The opticians, based at Marketgate Shopping Centre, will be handing out goody bags* to all mothers coming in for sight or hearing tests throughout Sunday 14 March.

The store decided to hand out the goody bags as a thank you to the town's mums as it knows just how important they are, with many of its 68-strong workforce being made up of mother and child teams.

One such team is hearing services director Sue Gardner and her daughter Laura, the store's assistant manager, and son Tim who is a part-time optical assistant.

Assistant manager, Laura says: 'My mum is very dedicated and works hard at the store, so, like all mothers, she deserves to be spoiled.

'We've decided to give out exclusive goody bags to all mums who come in store on Sunday as a thank-you. They will contain treats guaranteed to make them feel special.'

The mother and daughter duo have worked together for eight years after Laura joined the store at just 15 years old. But they are not alone, as two other mothers work with their children at the Specsavers including optician Kath Maggs and optical assistant Gill Laithwaite.

Store director, Graeme Gardner says: 'It's a really close knit team at Wigan so we often feel like a big family. We hope everyone enjoys the gifts and that they put some well-deserved smiles on mums' faces.'
