Local Businesses Seize Opportunity To Fight Against Recession

Thursday, 05 February 2009

Business owners in Oldham are uniting in a bid to fight against the toughest economic conditions in years, which are currently affecting industries of all types across the UK.

Small businesses are being encouraged to work together in support of one another to avoid suffering the same fate as some of the biggest brands on the high street such as Woolworths and MFI.

A new group has been set up in Oldham, under the Business Network International (BNI) umbrella, known as Oldham Renaissance Chapter. Local Kall Kwik Director, Mike Bibby, has been appointed as Chapter Director with the responsibility of co-ordinating networking meetings.

BNI encourages local businesses to network with each other and refer potential new clients.  The new group will facilitate business owners becoming the sales team for other local businesses in the area - benefiting each and every member.

Oldham businesses are being invited to a visitor's breakfast meeting at Smokies Hotel, Ashton Road in Oldham on Wednesday 11th February from 7.00-9.00am, where BNI's Directors will share secrets to success through "word-of-mouth" marketing.

Mike Bibby, Oldham Renaissance Chapter Director and Director of Kall Kwik Stockport comments: "The Oldham Renaissance Chapter offers a unique opportunity for local businesses to work together and thrive despite the instability of the current economic climate.  What makes BNI unique is that it only allows one member from each product or service sector to join a chapter, eliminating any conflict in passing on referrals.

"We would encourage local businesses to attend the Visitor's Day meeting to learn about the organisation, and see how it can effectively generate a steady source of business referrals.

Brian Whitehouse, Regional Associate Director of BNI and owner of 'Abraxas', a business solutions company, has been attending BNI meetings in Huddersfield for the past four years.  He comments: "I've generated over £450,000 in business since I started going to the BNI meetings. If it can work for me, it can work for other businesses too.

"We are pleased to support the Oldham Renaissance Chapter in forming a new group of like-minded small business professionals and wish all involved every success in their endeavours."

In December a similar BNI group in Rochdale generated over £200,000 of business for its members.
