Ms Launches Your Green Idea - Major New Competition That

Marks & Spencer today launches 'Your Green Idea' (www.yourgreenidea.co.uk), a major new M&S competition with a big prize - the chance for someone to win £100,000 to spend on a 'greening' an organisation of their choice, such as a school or a charity**.
The competition marks the announcement of M&S' programme to become the world's most sustainable retailer by 2015 through Plan A, its eco and ethical plan. The plan has been extended with 80 new commitments, which, as well as ensuring all M&S products become 'Plan A products' with at least one sustainable quality and enabling 2,000 M&S suppliers to adopt Plan A best practice, will encourage M&S customers and employees to live 'greener' lifestyles.
'Your Green Idea' invites people to get involved by submitting their ideas for new, positive 'green actions' that M&S could implement for all of its 21million customers to get involved in.
M&S' panel of experts will decide on the top three ideas which will then go to a public vote later this year. The final winning idea will be implemented by M&S and rolled out across its 700plus UK stores within the next year.
Sir Stuart Rose, M&S Chairman, said, 'We've had some great, green ideas since we launched Plan A just over three years ago. With our customers' help we've recycled four million garments through our Oxfam Clothing Exchange and saved over 600million food bags through carrier bag charging. Now we want everyone to get even more involved, not only by submitting ideas for greens actions but also by voting to decide which one M&S will implement."

The ultimate winning idea will get 100,000 for their favourite organisation, such as a school, a local community project or a charity, to spend on 'going green'."
Environmental and social issues remain important to UK consumers. A ComRes survey*** commissioned by M&S, found that 72% of people surveyed are worried about environmental issues, with 73% saying that the recession had not changed their level of concern. However, 40% of people surveyed said that they were looking for fresh ways to be inspired to 'go green'.
The competition is supported by a brand new website, www.yourgreenidea.co.uk, which goes live today. Entrants can visit the website to learn more about 'Your Green Idea' and register their interest in the competition, which will be open for entries from Monday 15 March****.
