Northumberland College has teamed up with easyJet to drive a Belfast tourism initiative for St Patrick's Day.

Today (17 March) a team of enthusiastic students from Northumberland College headed to easyJet check-in at Newcastle Airport to promote and distribute a comprehensive guide to Belfast which they have researched, compiled and designed themselves.

Working hand-in-hand with the airline the students were given the opportunity to engage with passengers and provide top tourism tips for their trip to Belfast.

The pairing has created a work experience opportunity for Year 2 Level 3 BTEC National students who are currently studying Travel and Tourism at Northumberland College.

Helen Bramley, travel and tourism lecturer at Northumberland College, said: "I know how interesting it is to engage with passengers at check-in as I used to work as a training co-ordinator for easyJet at Newcastle Airport.

"The students have worked really hard to complete the guide and I think they'll get a massive sense of accomplishment when they interact with passengers and bring their knowledge to life.

"I believe our partnership with easyJet will prove extremely beneficial to both the passengers and students involved as it will provide travellers with first class tourism tips ahead of their Belfast visit and give the students an insight into working within the tourism industry."

Hugh Aitken, UK commercial manager at easyJet, added: "We're very excited to be working with such budding and enthusiastic tourism experts.

"easyJet is always looking at ways to enhance its customer experience and I think today's promotional activity provided a real added value service for our passengers.

"More so, it's really important for us to form relationships with local colleges and universities as it enables us to nurture future tourism talent and potential new recruits right here in Newcastle. "
