Scotland Crowns Miss Sexy Specs

Scottish school student and aspiring paediatric nurse Emma Lee McFarlane has beaten 505 entries to be crowned the Spectacle Wearer of the Year for Scotland. 

 

The 16-year-old from Uddingston will now join nine other hopefuls from across Europe at the glitzy grand final hosted by Specsavers style ambassador, Gok Wan, on Wednesday 10 November in London.

 

Emma says: 'I never thought wearing glasses would give me an opportunity to become a model but this competition is great and has given me so much more confidence. I'm quite nervous but also very excited about the final. I promise to do my best representing Scotland.'

 

Contestants were judged on their personality and overall specs appeal by a panel of experts at the Specsavers store located at Shandwick Place, Edinburgh, including a talent scout from Storm Model Management.

 

Specsavers regional chair for Scotland, Susanne Akil, says: 'The standard of entries this year was incredibly high and it's great to see so many people wearing their specs with pride and confidence. I'd like to wish Emma the best of luck at the grand final. I'm sure she'll look amazing and her personality will shine through on the catwalk.'

 

Finalists at the international final will take part in a charity catwalk fashion show, in aid of anti-bullying charity Kidscape, as they compete for the international title from Specsavers and 12-month representation by Storm Model Management.

 

The international winner will also receive a two-week all-inclusive holiday for two to Barbados or St Lucia, courtesy of Virgin Holidays and Almond Resorts, as well as hair and Beauty products from Andrew Barton Salons and Simple Health and Beauty.

 

More than 7,000 entries were received nationwide for the 14th annual modelling search, which this year has already raised more than £7,000 - thanks to a £1 donation from Specsavers for every eligible entry - for anti-bullying charity Kidscape.

 

Claude Knights, director of Kidscape says: 'Thanks to the support of Specsavers, the stores, staff and customers we will be able to continue to run our free ZAP course. It teaches children that they don't deserve to be bullied and provides them with effective strategies that they can use to help them recover their confidence and rebuild their lives. We'd also like to wish everyone that has made it through to final the best of luck!'
