Snow Joke - Sharon Wins 10 Tonnes Snow To Celebrate
Monday, 14 December 2009
Lucky Sharon Longyear from Coatbridge has become the first person in Scotland to celebrate an early white Christmas today.
After winning a competition run by Xscape and SNO!zone on Real Radio the senior sales clerk had more than 10 tonnes of real snow delivered direct to her door on Friday afternoon.
The snow was transported from the real snow slope at SNO!zone Scotland, within the Xscape centre, direct to Sharon's house in order to create a white winter wonderland in her garden.
The white Christmas was the top prize in the Love Winter, Love Xscape Christmas competition which also saw Real Radio presenter Mark Martin dress as Santa and deliver a sleigh-full of presents to Sharon which included a Nintendo Wii, a case of champagne and a digital camera.
Sharon said: "When I heard that I'd been picked as the overall winner of the competition I was thrilled.
"It's such an unusual prize and the whole family has been looking forward to the snow arriving, especially my two young nephews who can't wait to see it delivered and be the first of their friends to build a snowman this winter."
The unusual competition ran on Real Radio throughout November and Sharon was the eventual winner from nine finalists.
Campbell Orr, from SNO!zone, said: "There's nothing like snow to make it feel like Christmas and we wanted to give one person the opportunity to be the envy of their neighbours by winning a white winter playground.
"We've brought enough of the real snow made at our Braehead slope to Sharon's house by lorry to cover her whole garden. We hope that she and her family have lots of fun being the only people in the country to be able to have snowball fights and build snowmen in their garden."
Colin Reid, Marketing Manager, Xscape Braehead, said: "We are delighted to be able to give Sharon Longyear and her family and friends a white Christmas. It means that Xscape and SNO!zone aren't the only places to be guaranteed snow over the festive period!
"Congratulations to Sharon and we hope they all have as good time playing in the snow as we will. Along with all the fun free festive frolics at Xscape we look forward to a Christmas to remember!"
Depending on the weather the snow is expected to last for at least two days giving Sharon and her family plenty of opportunity to play in the snow.
To enable everyone to enjoy fun in the snow this Christmas SNO!zone and Xscape are running a number of fun activities right up until the big day.
Santa is in his grotto on the real snow slope each weekend at SNO!zone and from 21st - 24th December for children to go visit and tell him all of their Christmas wishes.
At the centre of Xscape's festive frolics this year is the log cabin headquarters of the National Elf Service. The friendly Elves will lead the fun which includes personal Christmas card making, decorating your own bauble, the Great Christmas Pudding Hunt and much more.
Also on hand to help will be Chris Moose, an amazing animatronic talking moose with attitude, first of its kind in the UK ,who's sure to become a firm favourite in the Christmas run-up.
