Snozone Backs York Youngster

Tuesday, 01 June 2010

A rising star in the snowboarding world is celebrating this week following the news that he has secured sponsorship from SNO!zone Castleford.

Rowan Coultas, from Fulford, York, has received the sponsorship from the indoor snow slope, which will enable him to train on real snow throughout the year, after impressing bosses with his high-level of skill.

As one of the leading supporters of British snowsports talent, SNO!zone will sponsor the 12-year old.  SNO!zone will aid and nurture Rowan's talent providing access to train at SNO!zone's indoor real snow slopes at Milton Keynes, Castleford and Braehead.

SNO!zone will also provide various training opportunities on and off the slope at events and competitions.

Rowan started snowboarding just a year ago and immediately showed incredible potential in his first competition, The British Snow Tour Mini Brits 2009, where he walked away with a hat-trick of top place in the Boarder Cross, Slopestyle and Big Air events.

Rowan continues to make an impression in the industry, claiming first place in various youth slopestyle events at competitions including The Brits and the British Snow Tour.

Rowan's father, Nik Coultas comments: "Thanks to SNO!zone's support, Rowan has the fantastic opportunity to train on real snow all year round, allowing him to pursue his passion for snowboarding and develop his talent, which has shone through in many competitions over the past year.

"I'm sure he'll spend much more time on the slope with his new sponsorship, whilst having fun, as this is important to us all."

The SNO!zone sponsorship programme has helped many snowsports stars reach their true potential, such as Zoe Gillings who recently competed in Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics for Team GB.

Brendan McKenna, co-ordinator of the sponsored riders programme at SNO!zone, said: "We work closely with a number of young stars through our sponsorship programme and our three UK slopes regularly play host to many practices to build young talent.  We're thrilled to welcome Rowan to the team - he's a hugely talented young snowboarder.

"He's doing incredibly well at competitions by claiming first place in various youth categories within just a year which shows he's got great things ahead of him. We believe that Rowan, with the sponsorship and help from SNO!zone, has what it takes to become a top level snowboarder."

SNO!zone sponsors more than 60 of Britain's most promising young snowboarders and skiers, allowing them to prepare for competitions on real snow at its centres in Braehead, Castleford, near Leeds, and Milton Keynes.
