Specsavers Continues Literacy Link For 2012

Wednesday, 04 January 2012

The TV Book Club returns to More4 on Sunday 29 January. The new series features seven new authors in the ten-strong shortlist, including debut novels from a NHS audiologist who wrote between shifts, a police intelligence analyst, a former women's refuge worker and an investment manager.

Specsavers stores nationwide are supporting the series with a range of activities, including distribution of a free TV Book Club Summer Read magazine that features author interviews and summaries of all the books.

Specsavers marketing director Richard Holmes says: 'Many people will find that the first time they notice a problem with their eye sight is when they're reading, so we're delighted to be supporting the TV Book Club again this year and helping to promote literacy. There are some terrific titles in the new series and we'll be encouraging our customers to start their own book clubs, to read along with the show.'

The ten-part series features a celebrity panel that includes Meera Syal, Dave Spikey and Laila Rouass, coming together to critique a new title each week. Viewers are invited to interact with the show, reading along and sending in their own reviews.

The new titles have been carefully chosen by a panel headed by Amanda Ross, managing director of Cactus TV.

Amanda says: 'All the titles on this year's list will scream "don't put me down" at the reader. Although all my choices are, as always very different in style and content, their common factor is that they are all really great reads and the viewers will be torn when the time comes for them to vote for their favourite to win the accolade Best Read at the end of the series.'
