Three local youngsters are proving that snowsport talent runs in the family after a triple victory at a snowboarding competition.

Brother and sister Jamie and Sophie Nicholls, from Bradford, and their cousin Katie Ormerod, from Brighouse, all took part in the Burton AM tour which was hosted by SNO!zone Castleford last weekend.

The pan-European competition consists of 12 events held in 12 different countries throughout the winter and is the premier freestyle event for the continent's best young snowboarders.

Jamie, 15, who is sponsored by SNO!zone and trains part time with the British snowboarding team, came first in the junior boys category of the competition.

Cousin Katie,11, also sponsored by SNO!zone, was placed first in the youth girls category narrowly beating Sophie, 14, who came second in the same group.

The win is Jamie's second consecutive victory of the competition so far after winning the junior boys category at the first stop of the tour, held in Bispingen, Germany, and puts him in a prime position to become overall tour winner.

The results for all three firmly cement their reputations as young stars of the British snowboarding scene.

Jamie said: "It's been a great start to the tour so far and it's brilliant that all three of us got such good results at our home competition.

"We're all just hoping to do our best at the remaining dates on the tour."

Damian Doyle, co-ordinator of the sponsored riders programme at SNO!zone, said: "Jamie, Sophie and Katie are all regulars on our slope and we're really proud of how well they are all doing.

"We wish them the best of luck with the rest of the season's competitions."

SNO!zone sponsors more than 60 of Britain's most promising young snowboarders and skiers, allowing them to prepare for competitions on real snow at its centres in Castleford, Braehead, near Glasgow, and Milton Keynes.
