Uks Coastal Hotspots Benefit From Increased Investment
Monday, 15 February 2010
In a week which has seen Gordon Brown pledge to do more to help coastal towns across Britain to grow, iknow-uk has compiled a list of some of the UK's top up-and-coming seaside hotspots.
Marcus Simmons, managing director at iknow-uk, the UK's leading accommodation and tourism directory, said: "It's great news that the prime minister has pledged to do even more to help coastal towns - the great British seaside holiday is certainly not a thing of the past and in recent months we've seen a real surge in the popularity of several hidden UK coastal gems, as holidaymakers search our site for places to spend a special break away. This is a particularly strong trend this year, as people are still looking at 'Britpacking' as a cost effective way to spend their holiday.
"Seaside holidays for Brits are no longer limited to Blackpool or Skegness, and people are definitely looking to up and coming coastal towns to spice up their summer holidays."
iknow-uk.com has compiled a list of some of the top coastal towns currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity on its regional websites:
Marcus Simmons, managing director at iknow-dorset.co.uk, said: "Boscombe is a suburb of Bournemouth, and the area around its pier and coastline has been undergoing regeneration in recent years. The suburb is full of art deco buildings, and has a thriving street market - and as home to AFC Bournemouth, football fans have somewhere to go while the rest of the family spend money in Boscombe high street!"
Suggested accommodation: Bed and Breakfast By The Beach, Boscombe. For more information visit www.iknow-dorset.co.uk or call 0844 372 6287.
Marcus Simmons, managing director at iknow-kent.co.uk, said: "Kent seaside town Margate is a popular holiday destination for Londoners, trying to escape the big smoke for a long weekend away. The town is another that has benefited from significant investment in regeneration, and some big sporting events such as the 2010 Margate Big Sky Beach Race, and its popularity is set to continue in the new year."
Suggested accommodation: Turners View Guest House, Margate. For more information visit www.iknow-kent.co.uk or call 0844 372 6769
Marcus Simmons, managing director at iknow-northeast.co.uk, said: "Hartlepool is a small town on the north east coast, with a massive stretch of beach, and a growing marina area. The town has had a significant amount of investment in recent years and this is expected to continue into 2010 when the internationally acclaimed Tall Ships Races heads to the town."
Suggested accommodation: Douglas Hotel, Hartlepool. For more information visit www.iknow-northeast.co.uk or call 0843 208 3313.
Marcus Simmons, managing director at iknow-sussex.co.uk, said: "Littlehampton is a charming little town in West Sussex with a population of around 25,500 people. The East Beach Café put the town on the map, as did the comedy programme 'Open All Hours' which was filmed in Littlehampton in the late 70s and early 80s. There's also the nearby Harbour Park theme park, and the Littlehampton Miniature Railway which is really popular with children."
Suggested accommodation: Arun Sands Hotel and Self Catering Accommodation. For more information visit www.iknow-sussex.co.uk or call 0843 208 6783.
Marcus Simmons, managing director at iknow-northwest.co.uk, said: "Southport has undergone significant changes in recent years and its events list for 2010 shows that the town is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. For example, the Southport Food and Drink Festival and the Southport International Jazz Festival will attract visitors from all over the UK."
