Yorkshire Business Leaders Short-Listed For Iod Awards

Thursday, 15 July 2010

21 business leaders from Yorkshire and the Humber have been short-listed for this year's Institute of Directors (IoD) Director of the Year Awards.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Amanda Scacchetti, head of own designed products for Manufacture at Mamas and Papas and Kevin Hollinrake, founding partner and managing director of Hunters Property Group, are among those in the running to scoop one of the accolades that are designed to celebrate the achievements of Yorkshire's most hardworking and innovative business leaders.

John Thompson, regional director of the IoD Yorkshire and Humber region comments: "These awards are designed to recognise the tireless work and outstanding achievements which set certain business leaders apart from their peers.

"This year's awards are set to be hotly contested as our nominees comprise an incredible selection of inspiring individuals from both private and public sector organisations spanning North, East, West and South Yorkshire."

Last year the much-coveted Yorkshire Director of the Year award was scooped by Neil Gaydon, chief executive officer of Pace plc with the Lifetime Achievement Award going to Dr Graham Honeyman, chief executive of Sheffield Forgemasters International Ltd in acknowledgement of his inspirational contribution to the manufacturing company.

This year IoD Yorkshire has added a new award category and the 2010 event will acknowledge a Small and Medium Sized Company Director for the first time.  The other award categories are: Entrepreneur of the Year; Business Adviser of the Year; Not for Profit and Voluntary Sector Director of the Year; Young Director of the Year; Non-Executive Director of the Year; Lifetime Achievement Award; Judges' Special Award and Director of the Year

John Thompson concludes: "Last year's awards were very competitive with all nominees showing business triumphs and dynamic efforts. This year we want to help celebrate the success of those people who have achieved incredible results for their companies and organisations and contributed to the prosperity of the region during a difficult period for business."

The winners will be revealed at a black tie ceremony at Saviles Hall, Royal Armouries, Leeds on Thursday 9 September.

Tickets to the award ceremony are still available and cost £99.50 for IoD members or £111.50 for non-members and are available at www.iod.com/home/local-network/yorkshire/events or by calling 0113 243 0152.
