BEATTIE REACTS TO BREXIT VOTE BY TARGETING CANADA
Thursday, 30 June 2016
Beattie, the creative communications group, has reacted to the Brexit vote by unveiling plans to open offices in Canada.
“We want to control our own destiny instead of waiting to see what happens when the UK pulls up the drawbridge on Europe,” said group managing director Laurna Woods.
“That means establishing our own international network and we are starting with Canada. We intend to focus on English-speaking countries but we are not ruling out targeting countries with strong economies like Germany.”
Beattie intends opening four offices in Canada. The first office will be in Toronto with additional operations planned for Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver.
“We will replicate in Canada what we have in the UK – a network of offices spanning the country,” said Woods.
“We chose Canada because it is a dynamic, forward-thinking country with a vibrant creative community.
“We already have a number of international clients who operate across North America and as well as targeting new brands, we will be looking to secure work in Canada from existing clients.
“From humble beginnings our goal is to grow our business so that we become a significant player in the Canadian market.
“We will be offering a fully integrated communications and marketing service featuring PR, social, digital and creative services. We have identified premises in Toronto and we are currently working on our website.”
Leading Beattie’s business in Canada will be Toronto-born Jessica McAndrew. Jessica was a strategy coach before joining Groundzero marketing in Toronto in 2010. She joined Beattie six months ago.
She said: “It’s an exciting time for Beattie as we are embarking our international expansion during our 30th anniversary year and I am very much looking forward to the challenge of breaking into the Canadian market.
“We have ambitious plans and the number of jobs we create in Canada in year one will obviously be dependent on the amount of business we secure.”
In the UK, Beattie has a 100-strong team operating from eight offices including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Three headline brands comprise Beattie Group – Beattie itself, education marketing and student recruitment consultancy 11ten, and Only, which consists of twelve specialist marketing boutiques including Only Crisis, Only Retail and Only Digital.
