PR Firm Brings Christmas Cheer To The Homeless And Disadvantaged
Wednesday, 17 December 2014
Pasta, tins, packet foods and 300 Fray Bentos pies are among the mountain of food to have been donated to homeless and disadvantaged people in Glasgow and Lanarkshire by big-hearted staff at Uddingston-based Beattie Communications.
Scotland’s leading PR, social and digital marketing firm pledged to contribute the 300 pies to match its employees’ generosity in donating box after box of non-perishable foods and toiletries to the Loaves and Fishes charity, which provides meals for homeless people in Glasgow and a food bank for those in need in and around South Lanarkshire.
Beattie Communications’ group managing director, Laurna Woods, says: ‘Times are difficult enough for homeless and disadvantaged people but Christmas is especially hard. Our PR and digital teams really got behind the effort to donate and collect as much food as possible to help those less fortunate than themselves.
‘We were so proud of their efforts and determination that we pledged to donate the pies to boost what they had already collected. The charity has told us that the pies are a very fitting donation as they offer a good Christmas dinner option for families in need.’
Hazel Clare, senior account manager at Beattie Communications, organised the food bank collection and got the Beattie team onboard. She says: ‘I recently met with Dennis Curran from Loaves and Fishes and was inspired by the great work the charity does to help people in need, especially in the run up to Christmas. I took the idea of a collection back to the team in Uddingston and everyone was incredibly enthusiastic and excited to help.
‘I am overwhelmed by the response from both the team and the company. Being able to deliver so much food to the charity’s HQ in East Kilbride is great news and will hopefully go a long way in helping people most in need of help this festive season.’
Dennis Curran, chairman of Loaves and Fishes, added: ‘Loaves and Fishes depend entirely on the generous donations of many individuals, organisations and companies to help people in need by providing a sit down meal, food parcels, clothes and toiletries. This bumper donation from Beattie Communications is a great boost for us.
‘We don’t have any rules about qualifying for our support. When people come to us they need help. Our commitment has always been to provide that help, and providing it in a safe, comfortable, non-threatening environment. People have been incredibly generous this December and thanks to this donation along with the many others we have received, we will be able to spread a little hope this Christmas.’
