10000 Awarded To Local Communities Buchanan Galleries Announces Community Bursary

Wednesday, 15 October 2008

Buchanan Galleries shopping centre has announced the recipients of its Community Bursary for 2008. A total of 19 groups from across West Central Scotland will receive a share of the £10,000 fund.

The groups benefiting from this year’s programme range from carer support groups and mountain biking clubs to homelessness projects and sports teams. Organisations from Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde will receive funding.

Just some of the groups who have been selected are the Greater Pollok Carers Centre, Glasgow’s Roller Girls, Rascals Community Nursery in Stonehouse, Starter Packs Inverclyde, Shotts Amateur Opera Group and Glasgow-based Food for Thought.

Each year Buchanan Galleries aims to support organisations that make a vital difference to the people in their area, helping them to pay for materials and services they might otherwise be unable to afford. Applicants were encouraged to illustrate how their organisation benefits the local community and in what way the extra funding would aid their work.

Hamish Millar, General Manager at Buchanan Galleries, said: “We are delighted to announce this year’s Community Bursary recipients and hope that the funds will go some way towards supporting these outstanding organisations.

“Each group we have chosen plays a very important role in its local area and we are very pleased to be able to offer assistance with equipment, training, trips and initiatives that might otherwise have been out of reach.

“We hope that our support will allow local communities to continue benefiting from these vital groups.”

Buchanan Galleries’ Community Bursary has benefited more than 70 groups since it was established five years ago. A presentation of funding to each of this year’s groups will take place at Buchanan Galleries in November.
