Baltics and Black Sea Bookings Cruise Ahead this Summer
Monday, 29 April 2013
Seasoned cruisers are looking to set sail for new destinations this year, with a marked increase in summer bookings for Baltics and Black Sea itineraries.
Value for money cruise holiday specialist, CheapCruises.com, has reported that customers who would annually opt for traditional Western Mediterranean destinations around Spain, Barcelona and Italy are now starting to break from the norm to experience new countries and cultures.
Baltic cruises with overnight stays in St Petersburg and Tallinn, Black Sea itineraries including Ukraine favourites Odessa, Yalta and Sevastopol and Eastern Mediterranean itineraries taking in Dubrovnik, Istanbul, Athens and Kusadasi have proven most popular with cruisers booking over the last six weeks for summer 2013.
Figures released by the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) confirm that the general appeal of a cruise for Britons is itinerary and destination and that more than half of British passengers take more than one cruise in a year. In terms of motivation, value for money was the main reason for Britons choosing their last cruise holiday.
Prices have fallen this year compared to last year by an average of £200 meaning that it’s all the more affordable to cruise to farther flung destinations including the Baltics, which has attracted both those new to cruise and seasoned cruisers looking for a more unusual culture-led cruise experience.
CheapCruises.com managing director, James Cole, attributes the recent trend in summer bookings to the growing popularity of cruise holidays for families and couples alike and the increased choice in destinations and competitive pricing across all itineraries.
He comments: “Cruise holidays are more popular now than ever before. Unlike traditional package holidays which are limited to one or two destinations, once people experience the choice, variety and value for money of cruise breaks they tend to book again year after year.
“Traditional hot spots across the Western Mediterranean still remain very popular, but our seasoned cruisers in particular are definitely venturing into newer waters and trying out different itineraries in place of, or very often in addition to, their more conventional annual cruise – sometimes travelling twice or even three times a year.
“Our customers tell us that cruise holidays offer the best value opportunity to take in a wide range of cities, sights and landmarks that they have always wanted to visit and may never get the chance to experience separately.
“With summer 2013 cruises staring from just £299 for seven nights, including all food and entertainment, holidaymakers are choosing to cruise to save money without compromising on their holiday experience.”
