Leading independent travel company Barrhead Travel has announced the signing of Linda Armit as its new Head of Sales.
Former Regional Sales Manager with STA Travel, Linda will join the business in early July, bringing more than 20 years’ experience within the travel industry and a widely-recognised reputation for people development.
Linda’s appointment to the senior management team follows news of Barrhead Travel’s significant recruitment drive across the business and the opening of its latest retail store in Leicester – the travel firm’s second state-of-the-art flagship premises in England.
Sharon Munro, Chief Executive of Barrhead Travel, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Linda to head up our sales team during what is an extremely exciting period of growth for the business. We have a significant expansion plan in place for the next 18 months and her appointment is one of many new roles being created.
“Linda’s flair for team management and enhancing business performance will strengthen our sales division, and she will help to roll out the next stages of our expansion plans. With more store openings due to be announced in the coming year, we are looking to grow and progress our people across the business. Linda’s passion for mentoring and coaching staff is an excellent fit for Barrhead Travel and we look forward to welcoming her to the team.”
Linda’s role as Head of Sales will see her lead sales growth for the company as Barrhead Travel’s network of stores continues to expand throughout the UK. New stores featuring cutting-edge technology, including virtual reality headsets and Tensator Virtual Hologram Assistants, are set to open within the next 12 months.
Linda commented: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Barrhead Travel at such an exciting time as it continues to grow throughout the UK and innovate within the travel industry.
She continued: “Barrhead Travel’s focus on people development and training is something I firmly believe in, and I am thoroughly looking forward to working with the sales teams to exceed targets while continuing to deliver the outstanding customer service Barrhead Travel is renowned for.”

About Barrhead Travel:
Founded in 1975 by an ex-bank worker, Bill Munro, and operating from an unremarkable shop in the south Glasgow suburb of Barrhead with just one member of staff and a YTS, Barrhead Travel's first steps in the travel business were tentative and small. But fast-forward and the company has grown into a multi-faceted travel giant with more than 900 staff across 70 locations – and is one of the largest and most successful travel agencies in the UK.
In 2002, Barrhead Travel opened the first city centre travel superstore in the UK, right in the heart of Glasgow. One of the largest travel agencies in Europe, it was also the first “experience” store in Scotland. In 2012 the company opened a 100-seat contact centre in Cumbria.
Barrhead Travel has expanded from a traditional ‘bucket and spade’ travel agent to a multi-faceted travel group chartering its own flights, offering bespoke holidays to all corners of the globe, running an in-house training facility, employing specialist consultants providing expert advice in areas such as long haul, cruise and ski holidays and promoting youth employment through its apprenticeship scheme.
The company has won many awards over the years, including Top UK Travel Agency and Best Travel Agency in Scotland for 12 years running and was awarded a position in The Sunday Times Fast Track 100. Barrhead Travel was also named Employer of the Year at the Scottish Business Awards in 2012 and has been recognised as one of the Best Companies to Work For for the last five years.
The firm successfully completed the acquisition of UK-based cruise agency ‘The Holiday Specialists’ in December 2012, a deal worth in the region of £3 million. In addition the company launched its first trade-focused sub-brand, Brilliant Travel in August 2013. The new brand will oversee expansion of its managed service branches, home-based travel advisors and corporate partnerships.
