Bridges Delivers Real Snow To Shoppers For Christmas Light Switch
Sunday, 16 November 2008
Bosses at The Bridges brought real snow to Sunderland this year at their Christmas light switch on event, alongside stars of stage and screen who brought Christmas cheer to shoppers by switching on the lights on Sunday (16th November).
Stars include the legendary Paul Michael Glaser (aka Detective David Starsky from Starsky & Hutch), singer and actress Sheila Ferguson and the North East's very own Dale Meeks. All three will be appearing in the Sunderland Empire production of Aladdin, starting on the 5th December.
Paul Michael Glaser will be starring as the ultimate panto baddie Abanazar. Sheila Ferguson will be a mystical genie while Dale Meeks returns as pantomime dame Widow Twankey. Shoppers saw them first at The Bridges this weekend, along with Santa in his purpose built grotto and a magical snow toboggan run built by real snow specialists SNO!zone.
From 3pm, Simon and Sarah from Sun FM provided fun and games with fantastic prizes up for grabs. Shoppers also had the chance to win one of four VIP private boxes at the Sunderland Empire, to watch Aladdin in style.
Throughout the day the centre played host to a variety of fun characters to keep the children entertained, including a magician, unicyclist, balloon modeller, face painter, stilt walkers and Christmas characters!
Santa took residence in his specially built grotto, opposite Mowben and Sharps Bedrooms, where children can now make their very own Christmas tree decoration, listen to a Christmas story and have their photo taken with Santa and his elves.
Sarah King, marketing manager at The Bridges comments: "Every year we mange to have a bigger and better event and this year did not disappoint! With all the lights, panto stars and even real snow, we really got everyone into the Christmas spirit this weekend!"
Late night shopping at The Bridges begins on Thursday 20th November, 9am-8pm every Thursday until Monday 8th December where late nights will be every week night until Christmas.
