Buchanan Galleries hits the throttle this Easter with unique Fast & Furious Installation

Friday, 31 March 2017

Shoppers will be able to get fast and furious over the weekend as Buchanan Galleries today (Friday 31 March) welcomes a touch of Hollywood to the centre.

The shopping centre is the first in the UK and only venue in Scotland to host a jaw-dropping experiential event by Universal Pictures, to mark the release of the latest instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise which is released in cinema’s on April 12th

Teaming up with speed demon Sandy Mitchell, Scotland’s brightest prospect on the race track, Buchanan Galleries welcomes a 3m high, gravity-defying replica of Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) iconic Dodge Ice Charger.

A unique green screen experience will also be available for the public throughout the weekend, putting them into the driving seat to re-enact some of the most death-defying car stunts from the film, which can be shared with friends and family online.

Getting a sneak peek at the Fast & Furious 8 installation before its official launch, Sandy Mitchell who races the McLaren 570S GT4 car at up to 180mph in the British GT Championship for the Black Bull Garage 59 Racing Team  gave his verdict on the green screen.

The 17 year old who recently took British GT Rookie of the year 2016 from Angus said: “I grew up watching the Fast & Furious films and so to get a shot in the driving seat as Dom Torretto and barrel roll through the air on a city street was great fun.

“I’m used to charging round the racetrack at high speed, so I can relate to the skills and stunts on show in the Fast & Furious films. It has been great fun to be one of the first to try out the Fast & Furious 8 green screen and I can’t wait now to see the film.”

As well as the replica car and green screen, Buchanan Galleries customers will be able to visit a pop-up Fast & Furious store to pick up the latest must have merchandise celebrating the film, with the three day event set to be a big attraction over the first weekend of the school Easter holidays.

In an exclusive partnership between Buchanan Galleries owners, Land Securities, and outdoor media partner, JC Decaux, Universal Pictures will bring their experiential promotion to life in the centre from Friday 31st March until Sunday 2nd April.

Kathy Murdoch, centre manager at Buchanan Galleries, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Universal Pictures and their state-of-the art installation to Buchanan Galleries over the weekend and just in time for the school Easter break.

“It’s a first of its kind for Scotland and it’s a real coup for Buchanan Galleries to be chosen to launch the Fast & Furious experiential within the UK, allowing our visitors to enjoy the thrills and spills of an exciting movie in an innovative retail environment. I’m sure customers will enjoy the chance to play their favourite characters from the film.”
