Celebrities Design One-Off Christmas Cards For Charity
Monday, 17 November 2008
Some of the UK's best known TV and radio personalities have exclusively designed a range of Christmas cards to be sold online with all proceeds donated to BBC Children in Need
BBC presenters Lauren Laverne and Mark Radcliffe have joined comedian Leigh Francis, better known for his on-screen characters Keith Lemon and Avid Merion, and Karl Pilkington, author and co host on Ricky Gervais Show podcasts, in designing the one-off cards for the charity.
Hollyoaks actress Claire Cooper, who plays character Jackie McQueen, and BBC wildlife expert Steve Leonard have also designed cards for the cause.
The cards will be available from 17th November and can be bought online at www.thecardandgiftcompany.co.uk
BBC Radio 2 presenter Mark Radcliffe said: "Working at the BBC we're always very aware of BBC Children in Need and being a father, and recently a grandad too, I'm very conscious of how there are other kids who aren't lucky enough to have the lifestyle my kids have.
"The card is just a representation of that warm feeling you get when you see the lights beckoning you home in the darkness. I live in the deep, dark countryside and often walk across the fields at dusk with my dog Toto, and seeing the Christmas lights hanging outside our house just gives you such a glow."
Karl Pilkington enjoyed designing his card and said: "I took part as I like drawing so it doesn't take much effort. I hope it helps raise money for BBC Children in Need."
Andrew Gibson, managing director at www.thecardandgiftcompany.co.uk, wanted to do something totally unique to raise money for BBC Children in Need, and decided to approach celebrities to design a selection of one-off Christmas cards.
He said: "I was delighted by the fantastic response we received to the campaign and was very impressed by the standard of the cards designed, which are all very different and one of a kind.
"The celebrities involved seem to have really enjoyed taking part as well the chance to design their own card. They will make a fantastic Christmas gift and also hopefully raise lots of money for BBC Children in Need."
The cards will be on sale from 17th November until 31st December and can be bought online at www.thecardandgiftcompany.co.uk retailing at £3.95 with £1.14 of each card benefitting The BBC Children in Need Appeal where all money raised goes directly to help make a positive difference to disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
The BBC Children in Need Appeal took place on Friday 14 November 2008 and for more information please go to www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey.
