Wednesday, 23 May 2018

Visitors can explore the rich heritage of a spectacular Borders Estate with the chance to join a series of guided tours and talks.

Bowhill House and Country Estate has unveiled the next instalments of its Heritage Talks and Ranger led walks.

History buffs keen to explore the grand building’s past can join House Guide, Adam Borwick, for the next Heritage Talks session in Bowhill Theatre on Friday 1st June at 2pm.

Attendees will be taken back in time to hear more about how Walter Francis Montagu Douglas Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch developed the stately home.

Visitors can learn more about the 5th Duke and his wife, Lady Charlotte-Anne Montagu Douglas Scott, who was recently characterised in ITV’s Victoria, by visiting Bowhill’s Love and Respect in the Victorian Age exhibition.

On Friday 6th July, the Heritage Talks series continues with guests having the chance to delve into the Buccleuch Archives with Archivist, Crispin Powell.

Those keen to learn more about the picturesque Estate can join Bowhill’s Ranger for a guided walk. The next session on Wednesday 30th May will focus on the woodland ecosystems present at Bowhill and will take a closer look at the variety of species and history of the woodlands and its management.

The following month, the Ranger led walk will focus on heritage and landscape. The walk will encompass the formal gardens, upper loch, walled garden and icehouse and will include insights into working life on the Estate throughout the years.

Helen Currie, House Manager at Bowhill, said: “As Bowhill House and Country Estate dates back to the 19th century, there’s so much rich history to explore both inside the House and outside in the beautiful countryside of the Estate.

“With places limited, make sure you book your space in advance.”
