Dont Risk Going Uninsured Warns Uk Travel Specialist

Wednesday, 20 October 2010

Thousands of families could be risking huge bills by going uninsured on a UK holiday this half-term warns a leading UK travel specialist.

iknow-uk, the leading online travel company for UK holiday accommodation and leisure attractions, has carried out a poll revealing that 81 per cent of people have never even considered taking out insurance for a domestic holiday.

Even more, 93 per cent, have never actually gone ahead and bought travel insurance for their UK holiday which would protect them from unexpected bills resulting from cancellations and luggage loss or theft.

Although travelling in the UK means that holidaymakers do not need to worry about medical costs, insurance would still protect against loss of cash, baggage, cancellations, missed departures and delays.

Marcus Simmons, iknow-uk managing director, said: "The amount of people heading off for a half-term UK break who have never even considered insuring their holiday is really shocking.

"From our research it's clear that people associate travel insurance mainly with medical bills and as they know that those don't apply within the UK they don't think of insurance as a necessity.

"However, by taking out insurance you also cover yourself against cancellation and any loss of your baggage.

"Many people simply assume that their possessions are covered on their home insurance, but it's worth checking before you set off to make sure.

"Even if they are, if you have to make a claim it's always better to be able to make the claim on your travel insurance to avoid hefty increases on your home insurance premium.

"Cover for a single trip in the UK is very affordable so for the extra piece of mind it's definitely worth considering."

iknow-uk operates 16 websites covering the UK's most popular holiday regions.

The websites offer the UK's widest range of accommodation, including hotels, guesthouses, holiday cottages and B&Bs, as well as things to do, places to eat, and things to see.
