Easyjet Launch New Routes From London Gatwick Airport
Friday, 26 March 2010
easyJet, the UK's largest airline, this weekend (Sunday 28th March) launches the first of four new routes from London Gatwick airport.
The airline continues to expand in its largest UK base with its new Bordeaux route taking flight on Sunday. This will be followed by more choice into Turkey with Antalya on 21 May, and further routes to the Greek Islands of Zakynthos (21 May), Kos (22 May) and Chania (Crete) on 23 May 2010.
The airline expects more new routes to be announced later this year.
Paul Simmons, UK commercial manager of easyJet, said: "Bordeaux is famed as being the City of Art and Culture and with flights from £29.99 we're making this more accessible for all.
"easyJet now offers a total of 83 routes from Gatwick, and we plan to expand further from this our biggest base to provide even more choice to travellers. The secret to our success is offering the lowest fares, to the most convenient airports."
easyJet arrived at London Gatwick in 1999, initially operating one route to Geneva and carrying around 80,000 passengers in its first year. Now the airline has 42 aircraft based at Gatwick, offers a choice of 83 routes and carries over 10 million passengers a year, making easyJet the largest carrier at the airport.
easyJet is Europe's leading low-fares airline, currently operating 182 aircraft on 500 routes, to 119 airports in 29 countries. easyJet carried over 46 million passengers in the past 12 months.
