Easyjet Launches New Route From Jersey To Scotland
Thursday, 24 March 2011
easyJet, the UK's largest airline, has today announced the launch of a new route from Jersey to Glasgow.
It's the first time the airline has operated direct flights into Scotland and it will run flights to the vibrant Scottish city three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) between June and September, with fares starting from £21.99.
Glasgow is one of the most visited cities in the UK*, is a cultural heritage hotspot and boasts a wealth of tourist attractions.
Ali Gayward, UK commercial manager at easyJet, who was at Jersey Airport (24 March) to officially announce the launch of the route said: "This route announcement is great news for Jersey.
"Not only will we make a positive contribution to local tourism on the Island we will also provide Jersey residents with an affordable link to Scotland."
The Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Senator Paul Routier, who has political responsibility for Jersey Airport said: "easyJet's announcement today is excellent news in terms of the opportunities this low-cost air route will afford island residents as well the inbound tourism benefits. easyJet already operates a successful and well-established year-round service to Liverpool from Jersey and we are confident that, providing passengers take advantage of the service, Glasgow will achieve similar results."
The new route between Jersey and Glasgow will be easyJet's second from the island. It currently operates daily flights to Liverpool.
