Easyjet Launches New Route To Jersey

Thursday, 24 March 2011

easyJet, Scotland's favourite airline, has today announced the launch of a new route between Glasgow and Jersey.

The low-fares airline will run flights to the most southerly Channel Island three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) between June and September.

It's the first time the airline has operated a route out of Scotland to Jersey and fares will start from £23.99 (one way including taxes).

Jersey - which lies off the coast of Normandy, France - is dubbed the 'small island with the big personality' and is famed for its stunning natural beauty, pristine beaches and cultural treasures.

The announcement is more good news for Glasgow, coming just weeks after easyJet announced it will replace one of its Glasgow-based aircraft with a 180-seat airbus - the largest in its fleet. In turn this will allow the airline to carry up to 40,000 more passengers each year.

Hugh Aitken, easyJet's commercial manager for Scotland, said: "We are very excited to announce this new route for Glasgow especially as it is a first for Scotland. We are confident that this will be a popular choice with holiday-makers looking for either a short break or leisurely beach holiday.

"Today's news of a 14th easyJet route from Glasgow, together with our recent aircraft announcement means we will carry significantly more passengers from the airport. This goes a long way to demonstrate our continued commitment to bringing Glasgow passengers an expanding choice of routes at great value."

Amanda McMillan, Managing Director of Glasgow Airport, said: "easyJet's new service to Jersey is yet more good news from the airline, which only last month confirmed it was to enhance its capacity at Glasgow Airport by upgrading one of its aircraft.

"Jersey has always proved a popular summer destination and easyJet's new route will offer greater choice and flexibility for our customers."

The new route announcement comes hot on the heels of a raft of new Scottish route launches.  easyJet recently confirmed plans to base a fifth aircraft at Edinburgh Airport and will offer three new destinations from the capital - Tenerife, Grenoble, and Scotland's only direct route to Athens.

Notes to editors:

Glasgow to Jersey flights will operate throughout the summer months, between June 25 and September 24.

easyJet is Scotland's favourite airline - measured by passenger numbers. In the 12 months to end December the airline carried over 4 million passengers across the 4 airports (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness).
