Fun-filled weekends to keep families busy this August

Friday, 03 August 2018

Families can enjoy action-packed weekends throughout the remainder of the school holidays with a series of themed events at Dalkeith Country Park.

Taking place in the craft den located in the Fort Douglas playground, the first event in the August programme is a paint and play weekend.

On 4th and 5th August, youngsters can enjoy running around the playground as their favourite character or animal. Unicorns, tigers, spidermen and butterflies – the talented team of face painters will be on hand between 10am and 4pm to bring imaginations to life.

The fun continues the following weekend (11th and 12th August, 10am-4pm) with a spectacular pirates and princesses theme. Children are encouraged to come dressed as a pirate or princess and can take part in a host of activities including themed games, building a pirate den, decorating your very own crown and making balloon crowns and swords. The best dressed will have the chance to win a prize.

The summer holiday programme concludes on 18th and 19th August (11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm) with a woodland wildlife weekend. Dalkeith Country Park has teamed up with Edinburgh Butterfly & Insect World to bring some awesome creepy crawlies to Fort Douglas.

Families can take a closer look at cockroaches, millipedes and even snakes. Woodland treasure hunts, wildlife hunting and bug searches will also take place throughout the weekend.

Julie Merrilees, Visitor Services Manager at Dalkeith Country Park, said: “Our weekend themed events have proved hugely popular with families over July so we’re delighted to extend them into August.

‘Each weekend of activities is completely free of charge and is included within the entry price to Fort Douglas so there’s no need to book in advance.”
