Grontmij Expands North East With New Office Newcastle

Thursday, 19 May 2011

Leading European multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, Grontmij, is expanding with the opening of its first North East office in Newcastle.

The move comes after the company won a number of new contracts in the region, including a 10-year framework with Northumbrian Water. The framework covers a range of projects designed to help the utility company deliver its £1.5billion capital investment programme.

Regional Director, Paul Smedley, said: "These may still be challenging times, but it is testament to Grontmij's capability and client relationships that we are able to continue  to grow and open  new offices.

"With decades of experience working with water and sewerage companies in the UK, we have the skills and expertise to work in partnership with clients such as Northumbria Water.

"This office will help facilitate this work by bringing some of that expertise to the North East and giving us a base from which to grow further in the coming months and years."

A team of 16 will initially work from the new Grontmij office, which is situated in the Regus Center overlooking the River Tyne, but the company hopes to grow its north east presence significantly within the  coming years.

The framework contract is worth an estimated £2 - £4 million a year and potentially runs through to 2021.
