James Latham Is Move

Monday, 03 October 2011

James Latham has acquired new premises at Tingley, in Leeds, to help facilitate expansion in the Northern region, specifically along the M62 corridor.

Established  more than 250 years ago in Liverpool, James Latham now operate throughout the UK from 10 strategically placed regional sites, distributing a wide range of wood-based panel products, hardwoods and specialist softwoods.

Having opened the Ossett site in 1970 to service joinery manufacturers, shop fitters, furniture and kitchen makers across Yorkshire and surrounding areas, the company has decided that due to continued and significant expansion, it has out-grown its existing facilities in Longlands and needs to move to larger premises.

The new site is located on Capitol Park at Junction 28 of the M62, and was built in 2000 for the vendor. It extends to 66,000 sq ft, and has been acquired by James Latham on a freehold basis. A new 2-storey office and substantial warehouse extension are proposed to accommodate state-of-the-art racking and a wider stock profile. It is expected that the new site will be fully operational in Spring 2012.

GVA advised James Latham on the project, providing acquisition, planning and building surveying services. Rob Oliver, Director of GVA said 'Various properties were considered, but this property worked well in terms of its age, prominent accessible location, height and yard area. We are delighted to have secured it on a freehold basis'.

According to James Latham, Director, Andrew Wright;  "Having out-grown the existing site, the new James Latham Leeds facility at Junction 28 of the M62 will provide the modern infrastructure required to continue the successful development of the business across the region".

In addition to the £2.7m acquisition of the new site James Latham will be making an additional investment in excess of £1.5m in storage and handling equipment.

Simon Rhodes from Colliers, who represented the vendor on the transaction, said 'This modern self contained unit benefits from excellent motorway access. We have no doubt this will be a successful relocation for James Latham'. Fisher Wilson, BNP Paribas and Burbage Realty also advised the vendor.
