Kent Girl Tammy Wins Chance To Follow Her Fashion Dream

Wednesday, 23 November 2011

GCU London fashion student Tammy Pearshouse from Ashford in Kent has swapped a career in medical marketing for the bright lights of London after securing a prestigious industry scholarship from leading fashion retailers All Saints.

Tammy (24) is studying for an MSc in International Fashion Marketing at GCU London's stylish Spitalfields campus in the capital's hip east end.

The budding fashionista was one of only five to receive a scholarship from All Saints which will cover the cost of the course.

Tammy was working within the medical industry as a marketing assistant when she decided to trade science for fashion.

She said: "Fashion has always been my first love and I felt if I could market medical devices, which I was doing in my old job, then I would definitely be able to market something that I am passionate about."

Tammy graduated from Stirling University in 2009 with a First Class BA Honours in Marketing before going on to complete a work placement with Ashford Designer Outlet near Kent.

She discovered GCU London's course through the University of Kent's website and applied straight away.

She said:  "The course was exactly what I wanted to do, but there is no way I would have been able to do it without the scholarship. As soon as I found out that I had got an unconditional onto the course I kept my fingers crossed that I would also get the funding.

"Everyone on the course is fantastic and we all have our first presentation soon which is nerve wracking. The lecturers are really supportive and have a brilliant knowledge of the fashion industry. I had the marketing experience but needed to gain fashion focused experience."

Once she has completed the Masters Tammy hopes to gain a marketing job with a fashion focus. "I hope to work my way up through a company and would also like to build relationships with luxury fashion brands," she said.

Stephen Doyle, Director of Fashion and Luxury Programmes at GCU London, said: "The All Saints Scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for students to join the MSc in International Fashion Marketing and is indicative of the company's commitment to education.

"As one of the UK's leading fashion retailers the expertise and insights that it can offer students is particularly valuable. We are very grateful for their generous investment in our students.

"This endorsement by All Saints also highlights its belief in the programme and in the scholars that it supports. Tammy has done well to secure one of the scholarships and she joins us with some good industry experience behind her, which shows her commitment and determination to work in the fashion industry."
