Kwik Fit Insurance Tache For Cash Fundrasier

Wednesday, 15 October 2008

Kwik Fit Insurance’s HQ in Uddingston was the scene of an impressive battle royale on Thursday 9th October as bold staff took part in a ‘Gladiatorial Tache Off’ to raise charity funds. The head-to-head – or tache-to-tache – competition was part of a special fundraising day in aid of the company’s Charity of the Year 2008, Redburn School in Cumbernauld.

The male half of the Kwik Fit Insurance workforce was asked to grow a moustache in the run up to the fundraising day, collecting sponsorship from their team members. A battle to name the most impressive tache was held on the 9th, with staff voting for their favourite moustache.

A courageous Tom Cooper showed his support by shaving his moustache which he’d had for 42 years, but triumphant Tom Emans was voted the overall ‘top tache’ and won a professional haircut and shave from The Men’s Store in Glasgow as a reward for his efforts.

The day also included an auction of promises, where staff could claim a prize delivered by Kwik Fit Insurance directors and senior management. The promises ranged from a director offering to cook a three-course lunch in the Kwik Fit Insurance bistro and provide waitress service for a team, a senior manager pledging to come to a staff member’s house to wash their windows, and a director offering to take two people for a slap up lunch in a top Glasgow restaurant.

Teams had the chance to fulfil a fantasy through buying a slot in the stocks for their team leader and stepping up to hit the boss with wet sponges. A raffle was also held, with top prizes including signed football tops, Old Firm hospitality packages and a boxing dinner evening for two at Dalziel Park in Motherwell.

It is estimated that £3300 was raised from the event.

Tache Off competition winner, Tom Emans, who works in the accounts department at Kwik Fit Insurance, said: “It took me a long time to grow the moustache and I got a bit of stick, but it was definitely worth it as we’ve raised so much money. The whole day was a lot of fun, but more importantly it was brilliant to see everyone really getting behind the charity aspect of the event.”

Grahame Critcher from Belshill, who is Head of the Charities Committee at Kwik Fit Insurance, said: “We always take great pride in raising funds which help organisations in need. Everyone works exceptionally hard for the causes we assist and Redburn is no exception – the school has become very important to us. This event was another huge success and we plan to arrange similar fundraisers in the coming months.”

Earlier this year, Kwik Fit Insurance staff helped develop and makeover Redburn’s garden and a sponsored cycle was held to raise money for the school. These activities are part of the company’s pledge to raise an incredible £30,000 towards building a much-needed splash pool for the school.
Kwik Fit Insurance has nominated a Charity of the Year since 2005 and to date has donated over £80,000. This year’s initiative will see that figure exceed the £100K landmark.

Redburn School specialises in catering for pupils with a diverse range of physical and learning difficulties. The school provides a vast amount of life changing education and support to pupils and their families.
