Last dash to sign up for festive fun-run in aid of CHAS
Friday, 07 December 2018
The team at Dalkeith Country Park is getting on its marks for its first charity Santa Fun Run, as the deadline approaches for entries.
They are donning their Santa suits and encouraging runners at all levels – and keen fundraisers – to get involved in the festive race, in aid of CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland), on Sunday 16 December.
Participants will enjoy a 5km jog round the stunningly scenic grounds of Dalkeith Country Park dressed in Santa suits, all in aid of a fantastically worthy cause.
The fun family day out costs just £15 per ticket plus booking fee, including Santa suit and participant medal, with a percentage of the proceeds going to the children’s charity, which provides palliative care, family respite and support through hospices, home care services and hospital presence across Scotland.
And, as an extra treat, the families of all participants will be given free entry to Fort Douglas adventure playground on the day, while loyalty cardholders will be able to indulge in a complimentary hot drink to aid their post-race recovery.
Stephen Begg, Events & Sales Manager at Dalkeith Country Park, said: “We’re all set to get running in aid of CHAS, and hope that plenty of others will sign up to join us on the day. We’re into the final strait as the event approaches, so we would advise any potential participants to book their place as soon as possible – as the sign-up deadline is 14 December.
“The team cannot wait to see hundreds of Santas running through the Park, all in aid of CHAS – a wonderful charity that we’re exceptionally proud to support. It really will be a great day for all the family, with plenty to enjoy after the race in the festive wonderland that is Restoration Yard, as well as Fort Douglas adventure playground.”
Fiona Leslie, Community Fundraiser at CHAS, said: “We hope to see Santas turning out in their droves! Fundraisers like these mean everything to us and the families we care for. Without our incredible supporters, we wouldn’t be able to raise the vital funds needed to provide the hospice services that they rely on across Scotland.
“We make sure that no matter how short a family’s time together may be, it is filled with happiness and fun. We keep the joy alive by helping families to celebrate the lives of their children while they are together, and to honour their memory when they are gone.
“Three children die of a life-shortening condition every week in Scotland, and at present, we’re only reaching one of those families. Our ambition is to reach every single one and offer our services, which is why events like this Santa Fun Run are so important in helping us raise funds and awareness of our work.”
The Santa Fun Run at Dalkeith Country Park takes place on Sunday 16 December, with registration opening at 9am and the race starting at 10am.
Participants under the age of 16 require parental consent. Entries cost £15 plus booking fee, which includes Santa Suit (one size only) and medal.
