Leading sight loss charity to benefit from solicitors’ generosity

Friday, 08 June 2012

PERSONAL injury and medical negligence specialist Lloyd Green Solicitors today announced details of a unique national scheme which will donate funds to the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

In a move which is the first of its kind for any law firm, Lloyd Green Solicitors (LGS) will make a charitable donation of £300 to RNIB every time a client instructs a claim to the firm directly - and the claim is accepted - rather than being referred through a claims management company.

Lloyd Green, founder and managing partner of LGS, said he hoped the scheme would encourage more people to seek assistance from solicitors directly after an accident instead of going through a claims management company, and other intermediaries such as insurance brokers, garages and insurers.

He added: "At present every time a client comes to us as a result of a referral from a claims management company, we must pay that company a referral fee. If they come to us directly and we accept the case, that money can go to a good cause instead, as we will make a donation of £300 to RNIB, which is our Charity of the Year.

"Currently, many charities are struggling financially due to a drop in donations and government cuts and these have to be made up somewhere. Naturally, we would sooner see the money go to RNIB than into the pockets of insurers and others through referral fees.

"If the scheme encourages people to instruct solicitors directly, rather than through needless intermediaries, all the better."

RNIB is the UK's leading sight loss charity and with almost 2 million people in the UK living with sight loss, the need for the charity's services increases year on year. All funds raised through this partnership will go towards offering information, support and advice to anyone with a sight problem.

Josephine Job, head of major donors and corporate partnerships at RNIB, said: "We're thrilled that RNIB was chosen as Lloyd Green Solicitors' Charity of the Year in 2011 and we're delighted that this relationship has developed in such an innovative way. We hope that this new scheme will bring much needed funds to RNIB so we can reach many more people who need our help. A big thank you from us all."
