Liverpools First Pregnant Man Goes Liverpool Shopping Spree

Thursday, 01 April 2010

Radio City DJ Pete Price has spent today (1st April) fooling shoppers in Liverpool into believing that he had become the UK's very first pregnant man.

The DJ was challenged to spend the day wearing an 'eight and a half months bump' and looking after a cyber baby by Clayton Square Shopping Centre to celebrate the opening of its new Mothercare store.

Managers at the shopping centre wanted Pete to see the challenges pregnant Liverpudlians face and challenged him to complete a number of tasks including shopping with the cyber baby and pram, trying on shoes, catching a bus and packing a bag with everything a newborn needs for a day out.

Carol Cooper, marketing manager of Clayton Square, explains: "We were looking for an unusual way to celebrate the opening of the new Mothercare store and we couldn't think of a better way than challenging a man to see what ladies go through.

"I think that Pete had been wondering what all the fuss was about but he had a hard day hitting the streets of Liverpool with a bump, crying baby and a pram!

"It was fantastic to see people's reactions to him walking around and he really did fool some people into thinking he was having a baby, although one or two suspected an April Fool gag."

Heads turned in the city centre as Pete struggled to complete all of his tasks. He said: "To be honest, I never really understood what women complain about and how hard it could be.

"However, after wearing the bump I can appreciate just how tiring it is - especially when you have another baby to look after too.

"It was great fun fooling people in the city centre but I definitely think that pregnancy is something that we should leave to the girls!

"The most difficult challenge was actually bending down to try on shoes, however the Mothercare team did find the essential items I selected for a day out with a baby quite humorous, I think a new mum probably needs a bit of guidance in that respect."

Mothercare Liverpool will officially open on Saturday when there will be up to £1,000 in vouchers up for grabs.
